Growing Pains

Hello everyone!  I recently recorded a new Spreaker episode titled,  Growing Pains and in this episode I take a look at the often common presumption that if someone is experiencing pain it means that they have made a mistake or taken a wrong turn.  I also share why I believe that at times our experience of pain can actually be a sign of maturity and new growth taking place!  Here are a few excerpts from the podcast:

“… there is sometimes a presumption that if we are experiencing pain we have taken a wrong turn or done something wrong.  It has actually been my experience that pain is very often a sign that we are actually on the right path, and even though that might not be a popular point of view,  I really do believe that pain especially when we are obeying the Lord in something,  is going to be part of the process we have to go through because I believe The Lord is always wanting to stretch us and take us through experiences that will ultimately heal us,  grow us up, and mature us and maturing often involves growing pains!  If things are turning out to be harder than you thought they would be,  I want to encourage you that it may not necessarily mean you have taken a wrong turn or done anything wrong!”

“… my path has involved a lot of growing pains,  but as I have hopefully been maturing and growing,  I feel the Lord has entrusted me with different things to steward and care for which I find to be very fulfilling and helps to bring purpose and meaning to my life which is a reward in and of itself!  I do have one more thing on my heart I want to share about this and it’s something I have actually mentioned in my testimony which I recorded here on Spreaker and it is that for a long time as a Christian I experienced really wonderful daily miracles that seemed to be quick fixes but there came a point when the Lord impressed upon me that while the miracles would continue to happen,  they would occur more through processes that would involve me stewarding those miracles as well as any daily manna that I had been given.  I believe these processes and the stewarding and commitment required of me in them,  has developed more disciplne in my character which is an important part of the maturing process and does involve plenty of growing pains!  As I have accepted this new level of responsibilty I believe I am growing and that the growing pains are well worth the reward of getting to love others and share with them those things that God has entrusted to me to give away in love and freely! I want to encourage you on your journey not to shy away from a path that the Lord might be calling you to just because you fear there might be some pain along the way because pain in God’s hands will deepen and grow us up so that we can love others with a deeper maturity and capacity to love!”

The Flow Of Faith!

Hello everyone!  I just finished recording a new Spreaker episode titled, The Flow Of Faith where I share a few recent insights I feel the Lord showed me about the potential for an optimum flow of faith between our minds and hearts!  Here are a few excerpts from the podcast:

“I don’t know if you have heard this teaching before,  but it is the idea that our feelings follow our thoughts and then following that logic many teach that if we can essentially control our thoughts we can then control our feelings,  but this teaching has just never entirely sat right with me.  One reason for that is I have always thought that we weren’t actually wired by God to only have our feelings following our thoughts and then the other day while I was listening to Steven Furtick it was like a lightbulb suddenly went off for me when he said that there are no such things as non-emotional decisions!  As soon as I heard that,  I realized that this idea that our thoughts,  even by an act of our will,  can control our feelings just doesn’t work because it puts us in the position of having the expectation of ourselves to always make non-emotional decisions.”

“It has been my experience that when we try to make a mental decision alone,  even if the logic is sound apart from how we truly feel about something,  that it just won’t hold up over time especially if it gets tested by difficult circumstances and trials in life.  Steven Furtick went on to say that what is in our heart gets into our heads and what is in our heads gets into our hearts!  I believe we are actually designed to have a two-way flow between our head and our heart!”

“Steven Furtick also mentioned the idea that we cannot separate our feelings from our faith because what we do in reality flows not only from what is happening in our hearts but the condition of our hearts as well! This is why I just don’t believe that this idea of trying to control our feelings by the controlling of our minds and thoughts really works.  In fact,  I believe it actually encourages people to try and essentially suppress their feelings and ignore the condition of their hearts.”

“I think the ideal for us is really a healthy two-way flow that involves our thoughts being renewed and transformed by God’s word, while we are simultaneously allowing God to deal with and transform the condition of our hearts as well!”

God-Given Vision And Relinquishing Control

Hello everyone!  I just finished a new Spreaker episode titled God-Given Vision And Relinquishing Control, and in this episode I shared why I believe we need to follow the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill our God-Given purpose and to see the vision God has given to us come to pass! Here are a few excerpts from the podcast where I share what I believe might be one of the primary hindrances to our ability to relinquish control to the Holy Spirit and follow God’s leading in our lives.

“…  if we have ever experienced people attempting to manipulate and control us in a negative way we may unfortunately find that we are now carrying this negative past experience into our present relationship with the Holy Spirit.  We may not even be fully consciously aware that we are having an issue, but if anyone has mis-used a position of authority or leadership in our lives and consequently caused us harm by crossing our boundaries with this negative form of control, we may find that we fear allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us in our life path and on the course that would ultimately lead us to walking out our God-Given vision and destiny!”

“… it has been my experience that in order to see a vision fulfilled we need to be able to trust in the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit enough to step out in faith and act on those activities and endeavors that we feel God is calling us to do!”

I ended the podcast with a prayer asking for the Lord to help us discern when the Holy Spirit might be giving us direction and to remove any hindrances within us so that our God-Given vision can come to full fruition in our lives!  If you would like to hear this podcast in its entirety be sure to look for SMills’s show on Spreaker and I look forward to being back with you again soon with  excerpts from my next podcast!

Identifying Vision!

Hello everyone! I just finished a new Spreaker podcast titled Identifying Vision! However, before sharing some of the excerpts from the podcast,  I thought I would re-cap a little of what I have been covering in my Hope For Healing series on my Real Talk Radio Facebook page.  In the series,  I have emphasized the importance of staying on our path of healing with the Lord because I believe that the more healing we receive, the more we are then able to walk in consistent faith and trust which are essential building blocks to help strengthen our confidence in the Lord!  As we continue to move forward in our healing process from past wounds and trauma, we will hopefully discover that we are not only able to dream again, but to hold vision without faltering or losing faith! Once we have reached that exciting point in our healing process where we are healthy enough to hold God-given vision,  how do we then identify what our God-given vision is? Here are a few excerpts from the podcast that will hopefully help to answer that question!

“I feel that God has been showing me that as we receive healing from past wounds and trauma, and as we are getting freed from fear, the vision or God-given purpose of our lives will be better able to come forth, and I believe this can happen because our purpose is tied in with our core identity in Christ and who God created us to be…”

“…if we believe that we already have a God-given vision planted deep within the core of our beings, then it seems to me that the more we are healed and restored the more that core place will be able to come forth!”

“…I also believe that a clue to our core identity and our God-given vision can be found in those things that we are the most passionate about! I find it exciting and encouraging to realize that as our authentic identities are coming forth we are essentially discovering what we were created to do, and that as we hold on in faith to our God-given vision, we will eventually see that vision come to pass as a tangible reality!”

How Do We Hold Vision?

Hello everyone!  I just finished a new Spreaker episode titled, How Do We Hold Vision!  In this episode,  I talk about a couple of key building blocks that I believe can help us better hold God-given vision! God was emphasizing to me that as we go through various trials,  our faith as well as our ability to trust in God,  actually undergoes a process of strengthening and these times of testing can ultimately bring us closer to a stronger foundational confidence in the Lord!  Here are a few excerpts from the podcast where I introduce the idea that faith and trust are essential in establishing a strong foundation of confidence within us :

“… faith and trust are two of the essential building blocks we need to build confidence!  I believe that to the extent that our faith and trust in God has remained alive and healthy,  this is the extent to which our confidence in God has been able to stay alive and healthy as well.  Unfortunately,  if we have broken faith or broken trust,  this can adversely affect our ability to receive healing and these blocks to healing can affect our faith and trust in God. All these factors seem to be inter-connected and that is why I have emphasized in my Hope For Healing videos in particular,  the need for us to stay on whatever healing track we might be on with God so that we can be healed from any past wounding or trauma.  The more healed we become,  places of broken faith and trust within us can then begin to be restored as well!  If we continue on in our healing track,  our faith and trust levels should grow and strengthen until our trust in the Lord has been restored! I believe this is an exciting point where our overall confidence level in God can then be positively affected,  hopefully resulting in a stronger foundational confidence in the Lord that will not only impact our hearts ability to hold vision,  but help us carry that vision with confident hope on into the future!”
